Installation – Standalone for macOS (Apple Silicon)

This page describes the procedure to install XMapTools for Mac with Apple Silicon processor (M1 or M2). A description of the update procedure is available on the main website.

Compatibility

This version of XMapTools is in theory compatible with the following operating systems on macOS:

  • macOS Ventura (13)
  • macOS Monterey (12)
  • macOS Big Sur (11)
  • macOS Catalina (10.15)

Warning

You must eliminate any previous version of XMapTools by deleting the folder /Applications/XMapTools

MATLAB Runtime

This version of XMapTools requires MATLAB Runtime v912 of MATLAB 2022a

Any previous version of the runtime is no longer required and can be eliminated manually. Navigate to Applications/MATLAB/Matlab_Runtime/ and delete the folder v99.

Installation steps

  1. Download the latest version of XMapTools’ binaries for macOS (Apple Silicon)
  2. Open the installer
  3. Type your password when prompted (message: JAVA wants to make some changes)
  4. Click next
  5. Select the installation folder for XMapTools /Applications/XMapTools and click next
  6. Select the installation folder for the libraries (MATLAB Runtime): /Applications/MATLAB/MATLAB_Runtime and click next
  7. Click Finish

Note that you must edit permissions and adjust the code signature of libcudart as described below.

Edit permissions

Before to run XMapTools you must edit the permission.

Using the terminal

  1. Open a terminal
  2. type the following command (assuming XMapTools was installed in /Applications/XMapTools/):

chmod -R 755 /Applications/XMapTools/

Without using the terminal

  1. Open a finder and navigate to /Applications/
  2. Right-click on the folder XMapTools and select Get Info
  3. In Sharing & Permission, unlock access by clicking on the padlock and entering your password
  4. Select your account in the list and make sure the privilege is set to Read & Write
  5. Click on the last icon below the list and select the option: Apply to enclosed items
  6. Press Ok and close the Info window.

Open XMapTools

XMapTools app is available in /Applications/XMapTools/application/XMapTools.app. You can drop the add to the dock for adding a shortcut.

Note: be patient, it can take up to a minute to start XMapTools.
